28-YEAR TRADITION CONTINUES:
STUDENT ART MONTH HIGH SCHOOL ART EXHIBIT

The Windham Art Gallery is pleased to present the High School Art Exhibit, part of Student Art Month, which runs Friday, March 7-Sunday, March 30, with an opening reception on Friday, March 7, 5:30-8:30 PM during Gallery Walk. This exhibit, co-sponsored by the Arts Council of Windham County and theWindham Art Gallery, features painting, sculpture, ceramics and other mixed media work by students from eight Windham County and surrounding high schools: Brattleboro Union High School; Bellows Falls Union High School; The Compass School; In-Sight Photography; Leland & Gray; The Putney School; Vermont Academy and Twin Valley High School.

This annual celebration of student art has been sponsored by the Arts Council of Windham County since 1980 as a way to honor, stimulate and encourage young artists in our community. Student Art Month is a tribute to the teachers who inspire their students to explore new avenues of creative expression. The art teachers from each school curate and organize their students' work for the exhibit. Three works per high school will be selected for special commentary by a panel of judges. Artists whose works are chosen as Best in Show for a three-dimensional piece, a ceramic piece, a painting, a photograph and a mixed-media piece will receive a gift certificate for art supplies from Zephyr Designs.

Student Art Month also features work by homeschool and elementary school artists and will be exhibited at Brooks Memorial Library March 1– 29 and in storefronts, libraries and other public places in Windham County through March 31.

The Student Art Month High School Exhibit is supported by grants from the Brattleboro Savings & Loan Association, Clear Solutions, Inc. and the Crosby Foundation. Printing is provided by C&S Wholesale Grocers.
