THE BEAUTY OF BLACK AND WHITE The Windham Art Gallery is pleased to present Black and White, an exhibit, which runs Friday, January 4-27, with an opening reception on Friday, January 4, 5-8 PM during Gallery Walk and featuring work that highlights the tonal simplicity and beauty of a black and white. This show, co-curated by Carolyn Nelson and Judy Hawkins, was inspired, Nelson explains, by how "January is a time when nature is devoid of vibrant color and the limited palette of the season forces us to look beyond what is lush to the stark beauty of a snowy field, or a cold winter sun reflected on still water or ice." She says for her black and white recalls the bold brushstrokes in the paintings of Franz Kline or the majestic aspen trees as photographed in a complex range of grays by Ansel Adams'. This exhibit will include photographs by guest artist, David Bourdelais, and paintings and drawings by WAG's artist-members, Stuart Copans, Carolyn DiNicola-Fawley, Judy Hawkins, Carolyn Nelson, Scott Nelson, Leonard Ragouzeos, Marjorie Sayer and Lauren Watrous.
